Denplan was set up in 1986 by two dentists
who wanted to offer patients more than the
NHS dentistry system allowed. They wanted to
create a system that would simplify
administration and allow dentists to spend
more time with their patients and less on
paperwork, focusing on preventive oral
healthcare and providing high quality
treatment.
Their concept involved charging patients a
fixed monthly fee based on the condition of
their teeth and gums, and providing them
with regular examinations and treatment. The
stable income that this system would provide
meant that dentists could focus on quality
of care rather than the quantity of patients
they saw. Dentists would be able to practise
at the standard that they wanted to while
retaining independence and control of their
business.
Today, Denplan is the UK’s largest provider
of dental payment plans, with a 87% market
share. There are over 6,000 member dentists
across the UK - approximately a third of
practising dentists - caring for more than
1.3 million patients.
In addition to personal dental payment
plans, Denplan also provides corporate
dental cover for employee benefit schemes
and Denplan for Schools, an insurance plan
for pupils at independent schools.
Denplan emphasises the importance of
preventive dentistry, with the objective of
maintaining healthy teeth and gums for life.
Patients know exactly what their care will
cost and the treatment it will cover, thus
avoiding unexpected large bills and enabling
them to plan and budget ahead for their
care.
Denplan is the largest private employer in
Winchester with over 300 members of staff.
It is an innovative company with a modern
outlook and a lively atmosphere, offering
numerous social activities throughout the
year. Denplan is also committed to making
sure that you develop on a professional and
personal level and we actively encourage you
to get involved in the training and
development opportunities available.
Working hours & flexi-time:
The standard working week at Denplan is 36.5
hours per week, Monday to Thursday 9.00 am
to 5.30 pm and Friday 9:00am to 4:30pm,
although some teams work slightly different
hours. We operate a system of Flexi-Time,
which allows team members to adjust their
working hours at their manager’s discretion,
in order to accommodate family commitments
and promote a healthy work-life balance.
Training:
Throughout your time with us your training
needs will be regularly assessed to assist
with your development. Denplan places a
strong emphasis on training and offers a
variety of internal and external courses to
meet your needs. In addition, all new staff
attend “Day One” and “Denplan Discovery”
induction programmes to give you a greater
understanding of the Company and how the
departments work together. For staff wishing
to obtain professional qualifications,
Denplan offer an Educational Assistance
scheme.
Appraisals:
We operate a system of regular
competency-based reviews. These are designed
to help you review your performance, and
identify your personal training needs and
career aspirations. Your Manager will work
with you to set targets and objectives, with
the emphasis on providing the support and
development you need to make the most of
your abilities.
Internal transfers:
We would like to give you the best
opportunities to develop throughout your
career and we actively support the internal
transfer of individuals to improve their
skills and develop their careers within
Denplan. A weekly bulletin of current
vacancies is published on the Company’s
Intranet. Denplan is an Equal Opportunities
Employer.
Dress Code:
You will be encouraged to dress informally
whilst in the office on Fridays. Visitors
are advised of this policy so they may take
advantage of it as well. For the rest of the
week, we operate a dress code of ‘business
casual’.
Company communications:
Every 3 months there is a Company Briefing,
held at the local theatre, which everyone
attends. The Company Briefing takes the form
of a series of presentations by some of the
Directors and Heads of Division, the Sports
and Social Committee and guest speakers,
informing you about the latest events and
plans for the Company. We also take this
opportunity to raise money for our Company
charity in various competitions and events
such as “Denplan Idol” or “I’m a Senior
Manager, get me out of here!”
Charity and social events:
Denplan is proud of the relationships it has
with the local community – we actively
sponsor Winchester Football Club and The
Theatre Royal. In addition to the many
activities organised by team members,
including football and netball teams, we
have an active Sports & Social Committee
that arranges many events throughout the
year. These include quizzes, pub crawls,
fancy dress discos, and for those who enjoy
a challenge, we have participated in the
Relay for Life, British 10k Run, Three Peaks
Challenge and The Corporate Games. Many of
these events are used to raise money for
charity.
