Tory MPs to host construction industry seminar

29/11/2007

Conservative party leaders are planning to hold a summit for construction companies and trade association chiefs in April next year, reports claim.

In the run up to the next government election, Tory MPs aim to follow-up recent meetings and discussions with construction industry representatives over proposed policies related to the sector, in a bid to win over their acceptance.

"As policy continues to develop next year, we are planning to hold follow-up seminars giving contractors and trade associations a chance to help the party decide which issues to adopt and which to reject," a source told the Contract Journal.

Party vice chairman Richard Spring, shadow housing minister Grant Shapps and head of construction and property for the business relations programme Mark Simmonds are expected to host the event.

Meanwhile, transport secretary Ruth Kelly has announced that construction work on the £16 billion Crossrail project is scheduled to begin in 2010. ADNFCR-1196-ID-18375182-ADNFCR
