More firms offering freelance jobs

26/11/2007

Increasing numbers of companies are recognising the benefits of hiring freelancers, creating a wider market for those who require temporary, contract-based positions, says one UK freelance network.

Commenting on the recent recruitment trend, Katie Kirk, co-founder of Freelancers in the UK, said: "Stripped down, it's simply the ability to focus on the core business, whatever that may be, while outsourcing or using freelancers to fulfil other elements of the business – especially in an administrative/support capacity."

"Many SMEs have established long-term working relationships with a pool of freelancers who they can call upon as demand requires," she added.

Over the past decade, freelancing has grown in general, with developments meaning that it now extends to a range of sectors as well as promoting a better work/life balance with flexible working patterns.

Previously limited to creative industries, freelancing has now become an integral part of recruitment and human resourcing in the accountancy sector, with more and more accountants bringing their skills to a wider market. ADNFCR-1196-ID-18369572-ADNFCR
