Honda re-starts production
01/06/2009

Automotive giant Honda has restarted production at its Swindon plant following a four-month break.
Workers returned to their posts today as the plant went back into operation. The decision to delay production was made in light of the lessening demand for cars and to protect jobs in the long run.
David Hodgetts, director of manufacturing at Honda UK, said it was a difficult decision and noted that the plant would not be returning to full production.
"There's been no compulsory redundancies at all at Honda and that's the biggest objective we had throughout this period," he explained.
Workers have also accepted a pay cut of three per cent, while managers have agreed to face a five per cent reduction.
The re-start is excellent news for the local workforce and associated manufacturers. Meanwhile Vauxhall's employees are hoping their jobs will remain intact as its US parent company General Motors decides the brand's future.
