UK workers unsure about taking time off
08/06/2009

The economic downturn has left UK workers worried about taking time off from work.
According to a poll conducted by Teletext holidays, more than a third of workers are concerned enough not to want to take all their summer entitlement.
Gill Trevelyan, head of good practice services at the Advisory, Concilliation and Arbitration service (Acas), says employees should take what they are entitled to.
"Taking annual leave can help employees to maintain a good work-life balance and keep them healthy and well motivated," she said.
By taking time off employees can "recharge their batteries and return to work feeling refreshed", she added.
Each job comes with a unique set of conditions or a remuneration package and by law workers are allowed a minimum of 5.6 weeks holiday per year, says Ms Trevelyan.
Also, line managers should set the example by "taking their full holiday entitlement and proper lunch breaks", Ms Trevelyan went on.
UK workers also benefit from public holidays, which occur on different days each year.
