Tube strike reveals home working is undeveloped
12/06/2009

This week's industrial action by London Underground workers has demonstrated how badly prepared businesses are when it comes to letting their people work from home.
Some firms clearly have not invested in the technology and therefore they suffered most when their staff couldn't get in, says Application Delivery Network provider Blue Coat Systems.
According to Nigel Hawthorn, vice president of EMEA marketing, firms need to "ensure that they have the safeguards and network performance available to remote users".
Mr Hawthorn noted that businesses could plan for further disruptions and not face the costs of setting up a second data complex, because "allowing people to work remotely is now relatively simple."
The Tube strike brought London to gridlock and reduced the number of usual train journeys per hour from 500 to only 160, it was reported.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson apologised for the trouble the action had caused but called on the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport workers to get its members back at their posts.
