The Christmas and New Year period is the busiest time of the year for most retail businesses on the high street and you will find most will be advertising now for temporary seasonal workers between October and January with some offering the chance of long-term employment after the festivities have ended.
Seasonal staff play a very important part during this time and can be required for a variety of roles including sales assistants, till operatives, shelf stackers, customer service and warehouse operatives and can benefit from staff discount perks too.
We have compiled the largest selection of companies recruiting now but there are also a number of other options available when looking for Christmas jobs such as checking out your local Shopping Centre website to see if they are holding any job fairs in the run up to Christmas. Shopping & Garden Centre's may also be recruiting for Santa/Elf positions to be based in Christmas Grotto's so if you love children this could be a very rewarding role.

Marks & Spencer – 20,000
5,000 more than last year. The high street chain is looking for friendly and enthusiastic employees in stores all over the UK from October to January. All seasonal workers benefit from 20% staff discount. Sainsbury’s – 20,000
The biggest number ever. Of these 20,000 seasonal colleagues the supermarket expects that at least 1,000 will be retained in permanent positions. Interested applicants can apply for the seasonal roles from mid-October for employment starting in late November. After completing a straightforward online test, successful candidates will be invited to a short in store assessment and interview with a Sainsbury's Manager.
Royal Mail – 17,500
Recruiting now for Xmas casuals and have a variety of shifts at most locations across the country. You can search and apply for a range of seasonal jobs all offering competitive rates of pay.
