Automotive Jobs will boost UK economy

06/05/2011

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) have announced they may be building a major new plant situated in either Wolverhampton, South Wales or India.

It is estimated that the new site could create more than 1,000 jobs to add to the current JLR workforce of 17,000 staff currently based in the UK.

Jaguar Land Rover is owned by Indian car maker Tata Motors and has recently awarded £2bn worth of supplier contracts to over 40 companies throughout the UK which they estimate will indirectly generate a further 3,500 automotive vacancies throughout the UK supply chain.

Add to this the recent addition of 1,500 new recruits at the Merseyside plant (selected from an unprecidented number of over 14,000 applications) employed to work on the new Evoque model and you can see why JLR is a key player within the UK economy.
