About The Area
The town was designated as a second generation new town back in 1963 in order to increase economic growth and provide affordable
new housing within the region. In 1968 the town was renamed Telford after the famous civil engineer
Thomas Telford.
The area is part of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin and it is now recognised as a successful town which is one of
the fastest growing. Its predicted that its population will rise to around 200,000 over the next twenty years which could make
it larger than cities like
Newcastle or
Oxford are today. Its population enjoys natural growth and has a younger profile than the
national average.
The area boasts a combination of buildings both new and old. It features various historical sites of interest along with modern
shopping and leisure facilities. It has a number of companies currently looking for staff ranging from companies involved in the
retail sector within the town centre itself to companies
looking for employees to work at their premises based within a number of the
towns business and industrial parks nearby.
