I started my career in Dentistry over 30 years ago as a dental nurse/receptionist. After several years working my way up to Practice Manager, I knew I wanted to be more involved in Dentistry and applied in 1979 to Guys Dental Hospital for a place on the Dental Hygienist course. I qualified in 1980, winning the scaling award for my year.

I found the course extremely interesting and I loved every minute of it. I practised as a Hygienist for 16 years, working in the private and NHS sectors for orthodontists, periodontists, paedodontists and general practitioners. During the later years I began to feel that it was time for me to do something new so I bought Brown’s Dental Hygienist Agency, thus keeping within the profession that I know, but diversifying.

Initially, I had minimal computer skills (or any other office skills come to that) and had to learn everything as I went along. I found this very challenging but at the same time interesting and stimulating as I had not been involved in work such as this before.

I consider myself to be a very conscientious person and always like to give anything I do 110%. At Brown’s we do not give up trying to find locum staff for our clients until the 11th hour and will continue until the post is filled despite demand outweighing supply. We are not often beaten and when we place a Dentistry Professional for either a locum or permanent position, we always endeavour to match them to the most appropriate practice.
